Saturday Arrive

Sunday A gentle start until you get acclimatized – a 5 minute minibus ride to our start point and then a medium grade cicular route through local pine forrests with spectacular views over Mont Blanc. Pic-nic lunch by an icy mountain stream and a chance to cool your feet if you dare! Before a fairly steep descent back to the chalet.

Monday OK – you’re warmed up! A fifteen minute ride to our start point at 1600 meters ( mostly off road) with spectacular views throughout the Valley of La Source. Starting at an ancient and still operational fromagerie where the famous local Beaufort cheese is still made as soon as the mountain herds are milked in their mobile milking parlours at high altitude. A six hour circuit follows, commencing in a glacier river bed and then continuing up the valley which includes both ascent and descent of this stunning area which is completely un spoilt and untouched – with the exception of a couple of shepherds huts a herds of goats, you will see no other sign of civilization – not a pylon or cable in sight! This area has a large population of Marmots and Chamois so you may and you are sure to see the fantastic eagles circling and crying overhead.

Tuesday After the exertions of yesterday, an easier start with a cable car ride to 2450 meters to the ridge in between the famous Meribel and Belleville valleys, followed by a fairly deep descent into Meribel village and the chance to stop for a refreshing beer of cold drink. A gentle ascent follows through pine forrests into the resort of Mottaret before taking the cable car back up the steepest part of the route and then descending once more into the Vallee des Bellevilles and Chalet Chardon Bleu.

Wednesday Wednesday is our day off – you can either take a rest day, or we will give you maps and a picnic and point you in the right direction!

Thursday Today starts with a minibus ride to Val Thorens, the highest ski resort in Europe, where you meet your guide for the day from the local Bureau des Guides. An amazing walk follows across the Buchet Glacier to an altitude 3400 meters across brilliant white snowfields with views that make you feel as if you are on the top of the world. Finally you descend back to Val Thorens in the giant Cime de Carron cable car, with a view right down the Belleville valley.

Friday An early start for your final day, leaving the chalet at 5.00am for a 30 minute off road ride in our four wheel drive vehicles. We will then climb Mont Perron and should get to see the protected herds of Bouquetin ( large deer a bit like Impala) that graze on the slopes of this spectacular Mountain. Breakfast at 2800m watching the sun rise on Mont Blanc followed by a steep descent then gently winding walk back through the Vallee des Encombres – an area of outstanding natural beauty. A barbecue lunch will be waiting for us when we arrive in the village of Gittamelon, which has no road access and can only be reached during the summer months .

Saturday Depart, Au revoir!
